Wahala in America
This story follows Mr. Patrick, who has just arrived in the United States on a visitor’s visa. After a long journey and battling jet lag, he decides to visit a pharmacy (or “chemist,” as it’s known in Nigerian terms) to purchase pain medication. However, due to significant differences between Nigerian and American English, he mistakenly asks a stranger where to buy "drugs"—only to be directed to street-level drug dealers.
Unaware that in America the term “drug” predominantly refers to narcotics, Mr. Patrick nearly finds himself in serious trouble with a local gang. Fortunately, the gang leader, who shares Nigerian heritage and understands the miscommunication, intervenes and saves him.
This incident marks the beginning of a series of misadventures as Mr. Patrick struggles to navigate the unfamiliar American system, repeatedly finding himself entangled with the law. In an attempt to regain his footing, he accepts a delivery job for a notorious gang. However, a major mishap during one of his deliveries sets him on a darker path—leading to his involvement in a kidnapping case, arrest, and the looming threat of deportation.
A miraculous intervention during his trial—thanks to a favor he had rendered to an influential individual earlier—ultimately secures Mr. Patrick’s survival in America.
